I watched this DVD shortly after reading the first volume of the Grantchester stories so I was put off by the over-dramatization of Sidney Chambers and Insp. Keating. Also, the screenwriter(s) took great liberties with the plots including…

There is some lovely scenery, and I don't mind cozy mysteries that are on the light side, but it is annoying seeing so many charachters who seem to have sprung out of 2020 apparently transported to post-war England.

Enjoying every minute of this Masterpiece Theatre post WWII detective series based on good storytelling, interesting mysteries and great acting. Life at the vicarage is more about humanity and its scars than religion. Highly recommend,…

This series is a delight to watch. The story lines are well developed as are the characters, including the friendship between the inspector and vicar. I really appreciate that the Vancouver Public Library is carrying this series, thank…

Still engrossing: the series gets darker and intense, friendships fracture but somehow hold, closeted homosexuality takes a poignant toll, Dickens the puppy grows up, and the old cliche of "money can't buy happiness" is deftly represented…

Excellent series that shows 1953 was not as conformist as we commonly think it is. James Norton takes center stage as the sensitive, intelligent vicar growing sometimes painfully into not just adulthood, but a role as community leader. He…

Really enjoying this series! Great character development and wonderful costumes/settings. If you like 1950's era detective/murder set in a small British village then this one's the ticket! Season Two is equally as good.
Absolutely hooked by this series set in a Cambridgeshire village in post-WWII Britain. The wholesomely handsome vicar's love of jazz, drink and love for a woman above his station gives his character a wonderfully human dimension that is…

Season 2 even better than season 1. Gets into more complicated issues. Also characters relationships with one another become more complicated and "fleshed out". Enjoyable viewing that will get you thinking and discussing.

The story gets a bit bloody but the complexity of male friendship and crisis of faith hold things together well. The movie is much better than the book.

Not as good as season 1, but still interesting partnership between vicar Chambers and policeman Keating (the inimitable Robson Green). Sidney's ongoing infatuation with Morven Christie's character just weighs down the plot, when it's…
Smarmy. Vicar/playboy Sidney Chambers's theology leads us to the later philosophy of the Beatles -- "All you need is love." Author originator James Runcie was born in 1959. I doubt that he is portraying a post-war Britain that he doesn't…
