This book is worth reading for only the first story. The prose of The Future is Good is breathtaking and so unusual. I did not like the other stories. But 3/12 stars for the first one.

This collection of stories was a total pleasure to read. The writing was polished and the stories were consistently excellent - some were outstanding. This author has some wonderful ideas and the imagination to craft those ideas into…

Really nice: I particularly liked the opening story, and the title story. Lots of variety: folk tale, spec-fic, magical realism, and plain old domestic drama. She plays with narrative form, techniques I admire.

Stories take place in Africa or people who have connections there. Disappointed w/ this book. I think she is a good skillful writer. The stories were depressing to me. Did pick up a bit after the middle but not enough so I'd recommend.

A great debut collection of stories built around life in Nigeria or Nigerian immigrants in the US. I really enjoyed reading and learning about a culture I wasn't familiar with. These fragments of (Nigerian) daily life focus on family and…

Anyone who values good writing should enjoy this collection of stories because all of them are completely relatable to the human experience. There is some exceptional writing in this book. As others have said, there are both funny and…

Beautiful, incredibly inventive both in terms of literary style and subject, but bitterly, bitterly sad. You can clearly see the lens the author sees life (see the Atlantic article about the book) and the stories stay with you...

A great collection of short stories by a Nigerian-British-American author. Stories explore mother-daughter relationship, husbands and wives, the immigrant experience, Nigeria, and more.

This collection of stories is very well written; words distilled down to a potent kind of story telling that is full of flawed characters and hard lessons. She takes familiar and sometimes ugly elements of the human condition and weaves…

I first heard about Lesley Nneka Arimah's book of short stories, What It Means When A Man Falls From The Sky on instagram and it was the book's title & Jamaica green front cover that compelled me to borrow it from the library. I enjoyed…

These are really good stories about women and girls in Nigeria and the US. Each is good in a different way - startling, magic realism, changing perspectives, realistic.

Not for the faint of heart, but definitely for fans of beautifully written prose and provocative stories. In this dozen short stories, Arimah evokes people and places you will not soon forget. The first story is so startling, so…

These short stories are fantastic (sometimes literally!) Recommended for fans of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's emotional character development, and Helen Oyeyemi's magical/mystical story premises.
