I loved The Christmas Miracle Of Jonathan Toomey . It's a story of sadness and pain, kindness and generosity. The beautiful illustrations could tell the story without the word.

My mum bought this book the year it came out in 1995. It is a family classic now because of the tender message. Two families dealing with grief and hardship are brought together by wood carvings and kindness.

Talented woodworker Jonathan Toomey is gruff and bleak, taking little pleasure in his life after a tragic loss. When the widow McDowell and her seven-year-old son Thomas hire Toomey to carve a nativity, he begins to rediscover joy in his work and life again. This beautiful book stays with you long after the reading is over. It is a fabulous story of loss and healing, teaching and learning, and the quiet power of friendship to transform.

Yes, I get teary-eyed too when I read this one, but it's still one of my favorite Christmas stories.

A beautifully illustrated story for the whole family that will probably become a yearly tradition-- and you'll need the Kleenex box nearby every time!
