The first book of the New York Times bestselling Chet and Bernie mystery series, an "enchanting one-of-a-kind novel" (Stephen King) that is "nothing short of masterful" ( Los Angeles Times ).

Chet, the wise and lovable canine narrator of Dog on It , and Bernie, a down-on-his-luck private investigator, are quick to take a new case involving a frantic mother searching for her teenage daughter. This well-behaved and gifted student may or may not have been kidnapped, but she has definitely gotten mixed up with some very unsavory characters. With Chet's highly trained nose leading the way, their hunt for clues takes them into the desert to biker bars and other exotic locales--until the bad guys try to turn the tables and the resourceful duo lands in the paws of peril. Spencer Quinn's irresistible mystery kicks off a delightful new series that will have readers panting for more.

A great summer read, light and witty. Not so much a "mystery" novel as story-telling and problem-solving from the perspective of Chet the dog. My sister recommended and I thoroughly enjoyed!

He definitely captures the ADD-like behaviour of dogs, but Chet's "dog-view" narrative wears a bit and the plot is so simplistic that you know what's coming so there's no suspense.

Spencer Quinn has brilliantly entered the mind of a dog and humorously produced its contents in the pages of this laugh-out-loud detective series!

Major thanks to author Quinn~ Thoroughly enjoying this book as all true dog fans must. Only halfway through, wishing there were more in the series; It's my understanding that in fact this is intended to be the start of a series about Chet and his detective pal. As leisure/relaxation time is very important to me, I value having reading material of this nature available: Unique prespective, and adorable as well. Sherrie, New York

This is the first book in a series about Bernie and Chet. Bernie is the lead Private Eye in the Little Detective Agency while Chet, is the dog he’s partnered with, who tells the story. Yes, these books are all told from Chet’s point of view! In Dog On It the two are on the hunt for a missing 16 year old girl. Did she run away? Or was she kidnapped against her will? Late one night, Chet is kidnapped too, and he learns more about the case than he can tell his partner. When he’s picked up by some bikers and taken to the pound, will he make it out alive? Or will he take all his secrets with him to the grave as they make room for more stray dogs?

This was such a fantastic read! I loved every minute of it so much, I couldn’t put the book down. It was also an easy, fast read too. I highly recommend it. I’ve already requested the second book and I can’t wait to start reading it! If you like books about dogs, if you hate cats, and maybe birds who can talk too, love riding in cars and on the back of motorcycles, and above all, searching for clues to solve a mystery, this is the book for you!

Great beginning to a new series. Very enjoyable mystery. Not too violent, not too cosy, really fun. Set in present day CA and told from the dogs perspective.

So this summer I was going to read the next volume of Proust, a new translation of The Aeneid, and assorted other stuff. Saw this on the shelf and picked it up. Sorry, Marcel, I just found my new favourite series. You'll have to wait. This books brims over with good humour, joie de vivre, and canine wisdom. I only wish I'd saved it for a perfect day at Christie Lake instead of devouring it over a weekend at home. Maybe I'll restrain myself with the next one...

A thoroughly enjoyable crime/mystery book with a good mix of excitement and humour told from the canine partner's perspective. A fun read.
