Add a QuoteNick Carraway: "In my younger and more vulnerable years my father gave me some advice that I've been turning over in my mind ever since.
'Whenever you feel like criticizing any one,' he told me, 'just remember that all the people in this world haven't had the advantages that you've had.'
He looked at you and understood you in the way that you wanted to be understood.
Jordan Baker (of Gatsby): "He's an Oxford man." Tom Buchanan: "Like hell he is! He wears a goddamned pink suit!"
Here lies the center of the Gatsby's madness: Nick Carraway: You can't repeat the past.
Jay Gatsby: Can't repeat the past?
Nick Carraway: No...
Jay Gatsby: Why, of course you can... of course you can.
Nick Carraway: Stocks reached record peaks, and Wall Street boomed a steady golden roar. The parties were bigger, the shows were broader, the buildings were higher, the models were looser, and the ban on alcohol had backfired. Making the liquor cheaper. Wall Street was luring the young and ambitious, and I was one of them.

Add a CommentMusic is way away from time appropriate. Acting has nothing to do with the '20's. Overall, have no idea why anyone would give this a high rating.
No dancing like what was depicted possibly occurred in the '20's.
Great scenery, but I didn't care about the story at all
My favourite movie.
Terrific story and script. Excellent cinematography. Outstanding acting by a stellar cast. Highly recommended for adults.
Such a great movie and cast. I loved all of the theatrics that made it seem to come straight out of the roaring 20s! The ending was quite sad though.
Good movie based off a book. For a whole lineup of my favorite movies based on books visit my list.
A new film adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's classic, this movie is lush, visually gorgeous, and--from my memories of reading the book--very faithful in bringing the novel to life on the screen. The anachronistic music bothered me for a moment, but I think it was included--like a few costumes that also seemed out of place to me--to create a particular feel that was ultimately appropriate to the story. Good acting, great visuals, and a classic story--I really enjoyed this one!
This is a great movie with a great cast! The set scenes/scenery are alluring and absolutely exquisite to look at. You wish you were there! The wardrobe, makeup and hair are impeccable and truly capture the beauty and wealth of that era. Leonardo DiCaprio and his leading love interest share a great story of passion, fun and loss. Baz Luhrman did a great job here with his artistic vision come to life! Bravo! I have not read the book, therefore my opinion is not based on the comparison between the novel and the movie, just the movie alone. I own this movie, have watched it many times before and will watch it again! Check this movie out!
I have re-watched all Gatsby movies in order to rate them, and this is the 4th one. Overall, I still prefer the Robert Redford version, but if you want glitz and glamour, this is the one for you. This movie is just full of TOO MUCH into it. Everything is presented in grander scale compared to the older adaptations. Too much of everything! I'm not sure about the music, they don't seem to sound 20's to me, but they sound good nevertheless. Still a good movie to watch.
A razzle dazzle epic from Baz Lurhmann, based on Fitzgerald's classic book!
Great performances from all, and what a soundtrack!
Definitely check this one out Old Sport!
