Set in the future, a young man looks for a better life outside his small rural village in Mexico-- but finds himself facing a technological dystopia when he attempts to cross the border.

This Mexican sci-fi film touches on so many contemporary issues: immigration, border security, migrant labor, drone strikes, automated work, American-Mexican relations. It's premise and ambition are admirable, but it doesn't quite live up to these, much like two other sci-fi films with good ideas, "Gattaca" and "In Time." It clearly has a modest budget but makes the most of it.

Really interesting story, very well put together. Little sci -fi futuristic but believable and very insightful. Highly recommended.

Set in the near future, "nodes" allow people to directly connect their brains to an Internet of sorts to manipulate robots. "Sleep Dealers" construct cheap, unsafe sweatshops where 3rd-world noders can perform dirt-cheap labor for developed nations, without leaving home.

A soulful innocent gets fitted with electronic "nodes" all along his arms, neck, and back, so he can be plugged into a virtual factory to do menial physical work by proxy, in 12-hour night shifts, at a distance from 1st world benefactors.
