If I StayBook - 2010
From Library Staff
I picked this up because I say the movie. I usually don't read the book after I saw the movie but I am glad I did. I feel deeper in love with the characters and with the music! It takes you on a journey through classical and rock music without even hearing it with the perfect story to wind in bet... Read More »

Very good book! Defiantly intense in parts and is most likely going to make you cry but trust me it is worth it. Would recommend reading the book and then watching the movie; it will make so much more sense! The movie is also very good, I went and saw it twice in theaters.

“It's a metaphor, see: You put the killing thing right between your teeth, but you don't give it the power to do its killing.”
"Sometimes you make choices in life and sometimes choices make you."
“Love, it never dies. It never goes away, it never fades, so long as you hang on to it. Love can make you immortal”
“I'm not sure this is a world I belong in anymore. I'm not sure that I want to wake up.”
“If you stay, I'll do whatever you want. I'll quit the band, go with you to New York. But if you need me to go away, I'll do that, too. I was talking to Liz and she said maybe coming back to your old life would be too painful, that maybe it'd be easier for you to erase us. And that would suck, but I'd do it. I can lose you like that if I don't lose you today. I'll let you go. If you stay.”

Finished reading this book a few days ago. The book had more details being told than the movie. It's about a girl who loves playing the cello, got into an accident with her family, which doesn't tell how they crashed. She ends up in a hospital and in coma. I am not going to spoil a lot. I feel like this is giving us a reason to stay focus and check your surroundings because you may not ever know what's coming. This book is also filled with love, shocking, sad, and heartbreaking action, that will make you want to read. This can relate to us, when we lose someone or people that we love and how we are going to live on with them.
In this book the main character Mia gets in a car accident causing her to go into a comma where she needs to decide whether she should stay or leave
Mia has so much in life: a loving family, friends, a boyfriend, musical talent for the cello that will take her to Julliard...but so much of it is taken away in an instant. Mia and her family get into a car accident that kills everyone in her family and leaves her in a coma. But a part of her is still awake, still has to chose whether she wants to wake up, whether she wants to stay, whether this world is a place she still wants to live in.
This book is all about Mia. Getting into a terrible car crash losing all hope and her close family. she's trying to choose if she should stay since she believes she has absolutely, positively nothing to live for. While in a coma can friends and family try to convince her to stay or will she go and continue living with her parents up there. I cannot say anything more. If you must find out I personally would suggest that you read it your self
I read this book because its going to be a movie. To my surprise it was a drag out process for me. I'm not sure if its because I'm an adult reading a teen book but she just took way.... To long to figure out her outcome. Sometimes I just wanted to scream at the book lol.
Mia is on a routine drive with her family when the unthinkable happens, and her entire family is killed in an accident. Trapped outside of her physical body, Mia reflects on her life, and tries to choose whether to die or live.
In a single moment, everything changes. Seventeen-year-old Mia has no memory of the accident; she can only recall riding along the snow-wet Oregon road with her family. Then, in a blink, she finds herself watching as her own damaged body is taken from the wreck...
A sophisticated, layered, and heart-achingly beautiful story about the power of family and friends, the choices we all make, and the ultimate choice Mia commands.
A lighthearted drive to visit family ends in a tragic car crash, killing her parents and Mia's younger brother. She finds her self in an out of body expirience while her physical self is in a coma. Soon, it becomes apparent that it's up to her to choose between life or death. The long hours that follow her decision are spent making the choice of her life... Will she choose to go on in a life in pain without a family, but follow her dreams and be with the best boyfriend in the world? Or will her final decision be to let go and join the rest of her family?
