It is a beautifully illustrated book, with an equally encouraging story about a reluctant reader who has anxiety and struggles reading aloud in school, and how she gains confidence in her reading skills by reading to a dog at the library.

SummaryAdd a Summary
Madeline doesn't like to read at all. Sometimes people in her class giggle when she reads out loud and makes a mistake. She gets a lot of heart stickers from her teacher saying Keep Trying, but she wants a Star sticker. One day, Madeline's mother takes her to the library, and a librarian asks her if she is interested to read to a dog. Madeline picks up a book to read for the dog, and when she gets the letters mixed up the dog doesn't mind. Instead, it lets Madeline pet her. With the dog's patience, Madeline's reading skills improve, and she becomes a good reader at the end.
