I loved how this story dealt with racism and the civil rights struggle--it was accessible to young people, but was thorough, realistic, and didn't sugarcoat things. I was dismayed by the mean librarian in the story, but I guess no book is perfect. :)

This is a great book! Much more than a YA title- I am 64 years old and a voracious reader. A perfect book to read now in view of the recent presidential election and the resurgence of racism and xenophobia.
