Dory and her friends from Ms. Starr's Upside-Down Magic class set off on an overnight school field trip to Dragon Haven to see, and learn how to care for, dragons--unfortunately there are other students with regular magic there as well, so it is not long before the trouble starts.

I have been reading ebooks from the Seattle Public Library to my grandsons ages 6 and 9 in Massachusetts, and they LOVE this series as do I.

The characters are very human...the upside down magic is fun but has its problems and each book in the series is different, not following a specific plot line. In this series, Nory does something that is totally against the rules on the overnight field trip that her class takes. Another classmate discovers that his desire to be free and not connected to a leash)or loaded down with a bag full of brings so that he doesn't fly off) can have disastrous consequences. He learns that he takes to learn things step by step and not just take a huge, dangerous leap.

I first read this series myself after my granddaughter recommended it, and I loved the development of characters and the different points brought up in each book. I highly recommend it to other children (and grandparents) who enjoy a touch of magic and how being different can still be a strong point.

I love this series! I'm reading with my 8 year old, and we both love the characters and the story. In the world of these books, kids get their magic at about 10 years old. They could be fluxers, flyers, fuzzies...or their magic could be the sort that isn't easily categorized, upside down magic that behaves differently than the usual. This book emphasizes acceptance of differences, but takes it a step further, to celebrating and embracing the wonder of being different. Great story, great message!

I love the Upside Down Magic Series but if i'm not mistaken the main character in the book is named Nory not Dory. Nory is her nickname her full name is Elinor Boxwood Horace
