Richly drawn film of family members quarreling over a gifted math prodigy and the legacy of dysfunction in their relationships. The seven-year old girl is a marvelous actress as she depicts a brilliant outcast who learns to manage her mild autism in social settings, and the other cast members do well. There's an added gift in the talented Octavia Spencer as the outspoken but kindly neighbor and a beautifully rendered scene in a hospital, of all places, where the uncle tries to show his niece that parenthood can spring from and bless anyone.
